Hungary Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén Region
Bestillo Distillery is located in one of the most beautiful places in Hungary at the gates of the Zemplén Mountains and in the home of the famous Apricot of Gönc. The local fortress was first built in the 13th century after the Mongolian invasion of Hungary ended in the year 1242. Bestillo Distillery offers extensive tasting tours and free presentations of the ins-and-outs of pálinka making at their beautiful location. Bestillo also operates a local, newly built, hotel for those who want to spend more than just a day.
The Apricot of Gönc is under geographical protection. This variety grows in 45 settlements around Bestillo and they only use this variety for their well-recognised and award wining Apricot Pálinka. The special soil here and the microclimatic conditions are ideal for the cultivation of this special variety.
