Entries open for this year's Brillante distillate competition
The fruit of the year this year is sour cherry
Entries are now open for the Brillante - 2023 International Pálinka and Spirits Competition, which has been an accompanying event of the Gyula Pálinka Festival for years.
Pálinka entries from Hungary may be accompanied by entries from all over the world, and in recent years samples have been received from Slovakia, Romania, Serbia, Ukraine and Israel. Last year, a record number of entries were received, with 989 samples sent in.

This year's fruit of the year is sour cherries, and the best pálinka or distillate made from this fruit will be awarded a special prize, according to the event website.
In addition to the main prizes, category winners will be announced, and gold, silver and bronze awards will also be presented. The entries will be judged by a professional jury on 21-22 April, based on a computer database. The deadline for submitting samples is 14 April and the results will be announced on 27 May. The organizers are returning to pre-pandemic practice this year, with the 23rd Gyulai Pálinka Festival taking place in the spring, between 26-28 May.
